Paul Heckhaus' Home
A local venture into solar energy generation for the home.

Before

After

Paul Heckhaus with his photo voltaic equipment- The three boxes and meter to the left monitor and
control the electical generation produced by the panels on the roof. Paul is resting his hand on the meter
which connects his home to the conventional power grid. When his system produces more power than his
home is using, excess power flows into the grid causing the meter runs backwards and reducing Paul's electric bill.

Solar Assisted Water Heating System

Heat exchange is accomplished by ethylene glycol pumped through the solar collector and the collected heat is exchanged in the brown tank at left. The water heater is a normal natural gas heater.

This system is expected to reduce the cost of water heating by half.

Paul also waters his garden with collected rainwater
to reduce his water bill.
