From the Rt. 234 Bypass continue south past Linton Hall Rd and Vint Hill Rd. Turn left when you see the Centex Model Homes signs. Take first left on Poagues Battery Drive. The house is about a block down on your left. more easily adaptable at a later time to accommodate the needs of aging in place or a physical handicap. ![]() From the front, this house looks no different than the others in this neighborhood. ![]() From the driveway, the entrace is a very gentle slope. ![]() Notice that the sidelight on the right also opens, expanding the 48" front door to a full 60" opening. Although this picture doesn't show it, there is a wide-topped railing to the right - a convenient place to put packages while opening the door. ![]() The rear entrance is also a level entrance. ![]() The garage offers a gently sloped entrance to the laudry room which is off the kitchen. ![]() The laudry room has a pocket door to close it off while entertaining. ![]() The kitchen with breakfast area. The laundry room door is on the left. ![]() The island features two heights of counter, a sink with wheelchair accessibility, and refrigerator drawer over top a freezer drawer. ![]() Notice the drawer-type dishwasher in center on the back wall. ![]() The ovens are raised, the cooktop is wheelchair accessible, and notice the water spigot over the cooktop for filling pots. ![]() This pantry between the kitchen and living room is really an elevator shaft - just in case the future requires it. ![]() Upstairs, the elevator shaft is being used as a small workspace. ![]() Notice how the floor joists under the pantry are independent, allowing an easy transition to elevator shaft if necessary. ![]() Off the master bedroom is a walk-in closet with pocket door. ![]() The master bath has seating on either side of the tub for ease of getting in or out. The walls behind the tub are reinforced for ease of adding grab bars. Vanity is wheelchair accessible. ![]() The shower has almost no threshold. The controls are just inside on the left (out of sight). The floor uses small tiles for better traction. ![]() The commode area walls are also reinforced for ease of adding grab bars. ![]() Switches are positioned a little lower than most homes and the outlets a little higher. ![]() The stairway uses different colors of wood to help you see the edge of the steps, there are railings on both sides, and the stairway was made wide enough to accommodate a chairlift later if necessary (smart thinking ahead). ![]() There are also louvered lights on the stairway to make it more safe. |
